TEMPORARY HOUSING FOR DISPLACED RESIDENTS:
JANUARY 2021: A blazing fire that took place at 1 Glenwood Avenue, Yonkers, NY, displaced 52 families receiving Section 8 Assistance.
Lakisha Collins-Bellamy — Legal Counsel for Municipal Housing Authority of Yonkers (MHACY) — took immediate action:
LCB advocated to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) on behalf of the families affected by the fire.
LCB single-handedly obtained approval to use CARES Act funding for temporary housing assistance.
LCB personally distributed checks to residents at the affected property and local hotels.
